Your lighter will inevitably add some other gasses to your smoke. Lighters burn butane at various pressures, creating either a candle like flame or a jet flame. When the lighter is functioning correctly, the butane will combust into Carbon dioxide and water vapor. These are generally harmless, but are still impurities in your smoke that can affect flavor and harshness. Uncombusted butane however is a neurotoxin, and can harm you if inhaled. Hempwick burns similarly to the products being smoked, and will add fewer negative flavors. It also avoids the second problem of health risks entirely as it contains no neurotoxic potential!
Because a hemp wick is made with natural hemp fibers and beeswax, the flavor delivery is much better than with a butane lighter, or even a match. That’s because once the hemp wick is lit, you don’t have to use the source of ignition anymore. Once and done! The hemp wick is designed to draw out the desirable terpene flavors, and the beeswax is a clean burn. The substantially lower burn temperature of the wick, almost 2000 degrees lower than a butane lighter, will also vastly improve your flavor!
Hemp wick burns at a much lower temperature than butane because it’s naturally combustible but not a gas. Butane lighters like our Bic and Clipper selection burn at roughly 3500 degrees Fahrenheit. Hempwick like our BeeLine or Humboldt selections burn at a much lower 1500 degrees! This means that you will have a much longer burning time, which makes the experience last longer! This makes hemp wick definitely worthwhile once you get skilled at using it.
